Service learning is an educational approach that integrates academic learning with meaningful community service, allowing students to apply their knowledge and skills in real-world contexts. This method not only enhances academic understanding but also cultivates a strong sense of social responsibility. Through active participation in community service, students develop essential life skills such as problem-solving, communication, and teamwork, fostering both personal growth and academic excellence.
Following comprehensive briefing and training sessions held in January and February, DS5 students embarked on their first service activities on February 8 and 15. During these sessions, students had the opportunity to engage with the elderly, demonstrating care and compassion while gaining a deeper understanding of the needs of the community. Through these interactions, they also began to hone their skills in planning and organizing activities, which are crucial for effective service delivery.
This initial phase of the Service Learning Program has already made a significant positive impact on all DS5 students. By stepping out of the classroom and into the community, they have not only contributed to the well-being of others but also gained valuable insights and experiences that will shape their personal and academic development. The program continues to reinforce the importance of empathy, responsibility, and active citizenship, preparing students to become thoughtful and engaged members of society.
